Mr Thomas Woodrow Brewer

Mr. Thomas Woodrow Brewer, 91, retired carpenter and resident of Campbellsville Pike, died Monday, April 16, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Swango, the Rev. Ezell Rose and Brother Robert Wells officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. and Thursday from 1 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Lawrence County native was the son of the late Isom Brewer and Mamie Brewer Brewer. He spent most of his early life in Alabama. As a young man he moved to Maury County and began his career as a carpenter, first working on the construction of Monsanto Chemical Company. He later worked in Nashville on such projects as the National Life Insurance building, the former Hyatt Regency and other high rises. In 1939 he married Elizabeth Robinson Brewer who preceded him in death in 1996. He later married Irene Matlock Brewer of Columbia who survives him. Mr. Brewer was a member of the Local Carpenters Union and Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary. He was also a member of Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where he served as trustee and was leader of The Master's Men Group. He loved farming, gardening and raising blackberries that he loved to share with family and friends. Survivors in addition to his wife are his daughter, Betty Brewer Bowers of Columbia; grandson, William Timothy Bowers of Nashville; two sisters, Bertha McGaw of Spring Hill, Mary Ellen Cellan of Columbia; brother, Franklin "Rosie" Brewer of Columbia; step-daughter, Norma (Billy) Hutton of Columbia and step-grandson, Ronnie Cobb of Nashville. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bill Bowers and two brothers, Roscoe Brewer and William Curtis Brewer. Pallbearers will be Randy Rose, Ricky Rose, Elmer LeMay, Jr., nephews and men of Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers include Faye Hartsfield, Dr. Gaylon Harris, members of Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary, 3rd floor north staff at Maury Regional Hospital and the Respiratory Department at Maury Regional Hospital.
