Mrs. T. K. Young(Mama Ann)She was born Elizabeth Ann Maury on February 25, 1916 in Memphis. She became Mrs. Thomas Kay Young, Jr. on February 16, 1939. She died November 1, 2003, at Altera Sterling House. She will remain in the hearts of so many...Mama Ann.After growing up in Memphis where she graduated from the Lausanne School for Girls, she married and supported Tom K. Young while he was a student at The University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis. In 1941, following the attack on Pearl Harbor, they volunteered for their respective duties, enlisting the man's name and the wife's heart. The Navy assigned them to a variety of bases for Flight Surgeon training and ultimately shipped her husband to South America for two years. In 1951, Dr. and Mrs. Young moved to Columbia where he established a surgical practice. During the following years, she continued as a member of the Memphis Junior League as well as the James K. Polk Memorial Association. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church until 1999 when she and Dr. Young joined Zion Presbyterian Church.Mama Ann epitomized the Southern Lady in her life's three ambitions. As a wife, her support was without limits. As a mother, her love was without condition. And as a friend, her hospitality was without distinction. As for her children rising up and calling her blessed, three of her five granddaughters are named for her.She is survived by her husband of sixty four years, Dr. Tom K. Young; one daughter, Rebecca (Frank) Stegall of Rome, Georgia; on son, Buck (Lesa) Young; eleven grandchildren, Beau Young, Ben Young, Andy Young, Richard Young, Elisabeth Ann Reid Young, Elizabeth Maury Stegall, Frank Stegall, Jr., Blair Young Stegall, Emily Brooke Young, Lucy Young, and Tom Young. She is also survived by one brother, Lawson (Sally) Maury, of Memphis. She was preceded in death by two sons, Bill and Dick Young; and three brothers, Bill Maury, Napoleon Maury, and Richard Maury.The family will receive visitors from 3:00 - 5:00 Sunday, November 2, 2003 at the home of Lesa and Buck Young, 1506 Shadow Lawn Drive, Columbia. The funeral will be held at Zion Presbyterian Church at 1:30 PM Monday, November 3, 2003, with burial in St. John's Churchyard.Active pallbearers will be her six grandsons.
