MRS. MYRTLE RICE BLOSS PARRISH Mrs. Myrtle Adell Rice Bloss Parrish, 93, resident of the Hampshire Pike, died Sunday, January 4, 2004 at NHC of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Steve Swango and Rev. Wendell Trussell officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Loyal Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund. A native of Cordova in Fayette County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late James R. and Hassie Rice and a graduate of Bankhead High School in Cordova. Mrs. Parrish was a long-time member of Loyal Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and a former employee of J. C. Penny Company. Her first husband, Rev. J. B. Bloss, long-time Free Will Baptist minister, died in 1959. Her second husband, Mac Parrish, died in 1966. Survivors include a son, James "Jimmy" (Carolyn) Bloss of Columbia; three step-daughters, Margaret (William) Woody of Santa Fe, Jean (Edd) Chumley of Culleoka and Barbara (James) Edwards of Santa Fe; two step-sons, Doug (Vivian) Parrish and Charlie (Sue) Parrish, both of Columbia; grandchildren, Blaine Bloss, Kay (Dexter) Shelton, Jamie Bloss; step-grandchildren, Bill (Bette Lynne) Mardis, Jim (Mary Sue) Mardis, Jean (Marion) Garrett, Lavern (James) Robinson; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Shelton, Roger Shelton, Mark Shelton, Candace Bloss, Heather Bloss, Beth Osborne. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Rice; three sisters, Essie Tompkins, Ada Naramore, Evie Courington; step-daughters, Beauty Ramsey, Clara Bloss, Thelma Lindsey, Vira Mardis, Mary Parrish, Guinn Ramsey; step-grandchildren, Dean Mardis, J. O. Mardis, Dot Robinson. Active pallbearers are Troy Bowers, Jimmy Mardis, Bill Mardis, Jimmy Parrish, Ronnie Parrish, Dole Naramore, Shelton Naramore. Honorary pallbearers include members of Loyal Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Dr. Thomas Dake and staff of NHC of Columbia.
