Nancy Lee Hamilton Fitzgerald, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. Nancy loved the Lord, was known as one of the kindest and sweetest souls in the world, and was a beloved retired substitute teacher for the Rutherford County School System. 

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home, where friends and family are invited to gather and extend their condolences from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM. Online condolences can also be shared at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Nancy was born on December 18, 1934, in Maury County to the late Richard Hamilton and the late Kate Jeter Hamilton. She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1954 and furthered her education at Middle Tennessee State University, Bethel College, and Cumberland University. On November 9, 1955, Nancy married the love of her life, Freddie Fitzgerald. Together, they embarked on a military journey, stationed in Japan, Germany, and various bases across the United States during Freddie's service in the U.S. Air Force. Nancy's leadership skills flourished as she served as the president of her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, for several terms. In her spare time, she found joy in tending to her yard and flower gardens, enjoying card games, and exploring the world through nineteen memorable cruises. Nancy's zest for life was contagious, and she cherished every moment. She was an active member of Belle Aire Baptist Church, where she dedicated many years to teaching Sunday school classes.

Nancy is survived by her beloved husband, Freddie Fitzgerald of Murfreesboro; her daughter, Teresa Fitzgerald-Rossman (Jeff) of Old Hickory, TN; her brother, Ronnie Hamilton (Shirley) of Lavergne; four grandchildren, Chelsie Augustin,  Caleb Augustin (Briana), Anna Kate Fitzgerald and Richie Fitzgerald; and her son-in-law, David Augustin. In addition to her parents, Richard and Kate Hamilton, Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Rickie Fitzgerald; daughter, Danese Augustin; and brother, Frank Hamilton.
