MRS. NANNIE LEE ASHLEY Mrs. Nannie Lee Stepp Ashley, 90, former resident of the Riverside area, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Monday at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. David McGregor and Rev. E. G. Sims officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The Bedford County native was the daughter of the late James Richard Stepp and Lena Eaton Stepp. She was married to Benton Pruitt Ashley who preceded her in death on June 15, 1981. She graduated from Bell Buckle High School. Mrs. Ashley was a longtime member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she had taught Sunday School and was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Women. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Columbia Chapter #287 since 1967. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Ashley Buck and son-in-law, Allan Buck of Eclectic, Alabama; one son, Richie Ashley and special daughter-in-law and caregiver, Elaine Ashley of Columbia; one sister, Inez Thomas of Lewisburg; one sister-in-law, Bertha S. Ashley of Manchester; five grandchildren, Rebecca Lee Cason of Montgomery, Alabama; Carole Denise Knight of Hoover, Alabama; Jodi Ashley, Joel Ashley, and Jennifer Ashley, all of Columbia; three step grandchildren, Richard Buck, Roby Buck, and Ron Buck; three great grandchildren, Benton Cason and Alexander Cason of Montgomery, Casey Lynn Ashley of Columbia; six step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. Pallbearers will be Arch L. Johnson, James Stepp, Meredith Cowsert, Joe Parsley, Mike Cason, Blake Knight, Joel Ashley, and David Fry. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Columbia Masonic Lodge #31, members of Order of Eastern Star #287, Rev. Joe Neal Blair, Richard Buck, Roby Buck, Ron Buck, Rev. Keith Johnson, Richard Paulk, Jimmy Rochelle, Clyde Yeager, and Bill Derryberry.
