Neil Kirk Goodman, 74, longtime owner and operator of Goodman Floor Covering, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at his residence on Polk Lane. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born December 31, 1944 in Murphy, North Carolina, he was the son of the late C. O. Goodman, Jr. and the late Ila Sanders Goodman. In 1962, he began his twenty-year career with Goodman Floor Covering, which was founded by his grandfather Pete and his father Re-Pete in 1954. After his retirement from Goodman, he worked fourteen years with S & G Cycles as a technician. A motorcycle enthusiast, he tuned dirt drag bikes and bikes for the Brothers and the Godfathers, and had also built several bikes. Survivors include his wife whom he married January 5, 1962, Paula Howell Goodman of Columbia; children, Susan Paulette Goodman (James Ludin) of Crossville and Kristy Chantelle (Garnett) Nealy of Hampshire; grandchildren, Lauren Alyssa Tidwell, Adalynn Rae Nealy, Lincoln Garnett Nealy, Mya Claire Nealy, Ashley Nichole (Corey) Davis; and great grandchildren, Karin Davis, Kayley Davis and Gracie Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Corey Neil Davis. Active pallbearers will be John Chadwell, Wayne Goins, Tommy Logue, Charlie Morton, Kevin Hollis, Danny Gipson, and Melvin Hindman. Honorary pallbearers will include Ashley Brown, Pete Frierson, and Glen Johnson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers at Maury Regional Medical Center, Maury Regional Cancer Center, Dr. Ben High, Dr. John Freels, and the sweet nurses at Hospice Compassus.
