Nettie Jo Anderson Hinson, 95, retired secretary, died Monday, December 3, 2018 at The Bridge at Life Care Center of Columbia.A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 P.M. at Swiss Cemetery in Hohenwald with Russell Yoder officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Born May 23, 1923 in Wayne County, Nettie Jo was the daughter of the late James Wesley Anderson and the late Ruth Isabell Harber Anderson. She was educated in the Lewis County School System and graduated from Bolen’s Business University in Augusta, Georgia. She was employed as secretary for Lewis County High School, payroll clerk for Genesco Company in Hohenwald, wound rayon for DuPont Company in Old Hickory, secretary for Augusta Chronicle Herald, and secretary/receptionist for Burnham Warehouses, Inc. in Columbus, Georgia. On December 19, 1947, she married Charles Cuthbert Hinson in Lewis County at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Hattie Anderson. They were married for sixty-two years until Mr. Hinson’s death September 2, 2010. Mr. Hinson worked for Southern Railroad Company and was transferred to several states. Nettie Jo soon retired. They lived in Albany, Georgia before Mr. Hinson’s retirement in 1993; and they moved to Columbia. After Mr. Hinson’s death, Nettie Jo moved to The Bridge.Nettie Jo was very active in many organizations and received a number of certificates of appreciation. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Columbia, transferring from Albany United Methodist in Albany, Georgia.Survivors include her nieces, Ann C. (Bobby) Russell of Spring Hill, Willodene Petway of Franklin, Kaye Lindsay of Mt. Pleasant, Linda A. (Roy) Fox of Franklin; nephew, Kenneth E. (Donna) Anderson of Mt. Pleasant; several great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews, and great great great nieces, and great great great nephews.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth Anderson of Hohenwald, Arthur Anderson of Franklin; sisters, Lillie A. Churchwell of Franklin, Lucille A. Fite of Hohenwald, Willie R. Zingerall of Mt. Pleasant, Jane A. Baker of Columbia; great nephew, James G. Petway of Franklin.The family wants to extend their appreciation to past and present caretakers, Valerie Grant, Janice Anderson, Linda Brown, Staff of The Bridge Assisted Living of Columbia, Barbara Johnson and the Ayers Whitney Fellowship Class at First United Methodist Church, Columbia.
