Nora Faye Nafe Sumner Cox, 78, retired nurse and former resident of Columbia, died Sunday, July 22, 2018 at her residence in Brentwood.Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com .Born May 2, 1940 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late Murrell Thomas Nafe and the late Opal Parker Nafe. On August 17, 1963 she married Bennie L. Sumner who preceded her in death March 30, 1977. In May 1981 she married Sam Cox from Springfield, Missouri, who died in January 2000. A graduate of Summertown High School, Mrs. Cox entered Nashville General Hospital School of Nursing in September of 1958. After graduating in 1961, she was employed for Drs. Frist, Scoville, and Kochtitzky for two years. She had also lived in Lexington, Kentucky and Charleston, South Carolina before making her home in Columbia, where her first husband opened his private dental practice. Mrs. Cox loved people and found her greatest joy in caring for those in need.She was a member of Concord Road Church of Christ and a former longtime member of Graymere Church of Christ.Survivors include her daughters, Beth Sumner (Jeff) Osteen of Brentwood and Kelly Sumner (Darren) Jones of Hendersonville; son, David Sumner of Antioch; grandchildren, Jessica Sumner (Andrew) Kiskaddon, Benjamin Scott Osteen, Nicholas Ryan Osteen, Sydney Renee Smith, Taylor Layne Smith, Kevin Lucas Sumner; sister, Jean (Charles Edward) Richardson of Columbia; brothers, Murrell Thomas Nafe, Jr. of Indiana and Danny Leon Nafe of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by a brother, Nolen Ray Nafe.Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
