View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Norma Jean Layman Vandiver, 89, retired switchboard operator at Maury County Court House and resident of Hermitage Circle, died Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Arbors Pavilion at Polk Memorial Gardens with Dr. Karen Davis and Jeffrey Loveless officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. On September 14, 1949, she married Samuel C. "Sam" Vandiver who died August 29, 1996. Her first husband, Clifton Davis, Jr., died June 7, 1948. She was of the Methodist faith, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and an avid reader. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Davis of Escatawpa, Mississippi, Shelly Barnes of Flomaton, Alabama, Susan Petty of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Gail (Larry) Loveless of Columbia, Lisa Davis of Smyrna, and Robin (Derek) Church of Columbia; brothers, Richard "Dick" Layman of Waynesville, Missouri and Bill (Val) Layman of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren, Lori (Larry) Thompson, Debra (Steve) Dees, Kelly (Gene) McCard, Jamie Barnes, Jeremy (Lisa) Barnes, Joshua (Nicole) Barnes, Pete (Charlotte) Thompson, Beth Loveless (Matt) Bogosian, Jeffrey (Kelley) Loveless, Jake Loveless, Chris (Terresia) Davis, and Michelle Davis (Eric) Yatuzis; 22 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Clara Wells, Ann Church, and Vernice Mitchell. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Layman, Don Layman, George Layman, Tommy Layman, and Jack Layman; sons-in-law, James Barnes, Ken Petty, and Kenny Davis; sisters-in-law, Rosie Layman and Nadine Layman. Her grandsons, Jamie Barnes, Jeremy Barnes, Pete Thompson, Jeffrey Loveless, Jake Loveless, and Chris Davis will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Larry Loveless, Joshua Barnes, and Derek Church. The family wishes to express appreciation to the staffs of First Floor ICU, CCU, Cardiac Care Units at Maury Regional Medical Center and Dr. Steve Simmons for their care and concern during her illness.
