Mr. Norman Floyd Brown, 76, left his loving family on Sunday, August 26, 2007 to join his Heavenly Father whom he had served so faithfully. His gentle spirit portrayed the teaching in the book of James: "let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath." He lived a quiet life full of devotion to God and family. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Carl May officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com.He was born July 12, 1931 in Maury County to the late Floyd Fox and Annie Ruby Lee Brown. Mr. Brown served two years in the U. S. Army Signal Corps as a young man and returned to enjoy the rest of his life in the Bear Creek Community. He was a member of Berea Church of Christ, serving as deacon and treasurer for many years and devoting much of his time and knowledge to the maintenance of the church building until the decline of his health in recent years. He was known by all as one who could repair or build anything and spent many hours generously helping neighbors, friends, and family.He retired from Union Carbide Corporation with a reputation of kindness and skill of his craft, enjoying the friendship and respect of his co-workers.His passing leaves a deep void in his family, but his living left a great example of a Christian life.He leaves hehind his beloved wife of 53 years, Bettye Belle Underwood Brown. Their happiness and contentment with one another produced a very happy and loving home for their two daughters and two sons, Belinda (Hal) Holcomb, Michael Brown, Bobby (Sharon) Brown, and Beverly (Michael) Richardson. Mr. Brown leaves a lasting impact on his eleven grandchildren, Amanda (Jermy) Cothran, Rebecca Holcomb, Sarah (David) Inch, Chris Brown, Colton Brown, Megan Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Kaitlin Brown, Emily Richardson, Noah Richardson, and Spencer Richardson. He was blessed with six great-grandchildren, Aubry Price, Alisha Price, Annabelle Cothran, Emmalyn Cothran, Cooper Inch, and Brecken Inch. He leaves behind his only sister, Olivia (Stacey) Lunn, niece, Suzanne (Bryant) Cheatham, and great-niece, Kaitlyn Lunn. He was preceded in death by his nephew, David Lunn. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law, Elizabeth (Malcolm) Underwood, who resides in his home. The family expresses their appreciation for the kindness and expert care of the nurses on the Skilled Nursing Unit at Maury Regional Hospital and a special thank you to Dr. Gaylon Harris for his special care during Mr. Brown's illness. Active pallbearers are Julian Sharp, Stacey Lunn, David Inch, Jermy Cothran, Colton Brown, Chris Brown, Spencer Richardson, and Noah Richardson. Honorary pallbearers include retired employees of the Maintenance Department of Union Carbide Corporation.
