Novelyn McCarty Mrs. Novelyn Bass McCarty, 91, former owner of McCarty Florist in Riverside and resident of Petersburg, died Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Bedford County Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Horace Bass and Rev. Jimmy Bass officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Rev. Arch Bass and Ethel Shook Bass. On May 12, 1936 she married Eulice V. McCarty who preceded her in death on May 7, 2000. Mrs. McCarty was a graduate of Big Rock High School, attended Middle Tennessee State University and graduated from Martin College in 1934. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include one granddaughter, Mrs. Kathy Green (Edward) Jett of Petersburg; one grandson, Joe Glenn Green, Jr. of Ft. Myers, Florida; one brother, Horace (Margaret Long) Bass of Madison; four great-grandchildren, Mary Ellen Brown, Joe Michael Brown, Samantha Whitesell all of Petersburg and Taylor Green of Boston, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by one son, Malcolm Howard "Mack" McCarty, one daughter, Yvonne McCarty Green and one grandson, Donald Green. Pallbearers will be Joe Glenn Green, Jr., Edward Jett, Joe Michael Brown, Chris London, Ashley Brown and David Bass.
