Mr. O.M. Harris, Jr., 89, retired crane operator with Monsanto and longtime resident of Westover Drive, died Monday, February 28, 2005 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Thursday, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wendell Robinson and John Vaughan officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The Maury County native was the son of the late Otho M. Harris, Sr. and Jimmie Thompson Harris. In 1937 he married Mary Stanfill Harris who preceded him in death on January 7, 1999. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended Maury County Schools and was a former member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Mr. Harris was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Donna (Carl) Leland, Mrs. Theresa (Bill) Shouse both of Columbia, Mrs. Gail (Rea) Grissom of Huntsville, Alabama; two sons, William Edward "Eddie" (Nora) Harris, George (Dianne) Harris both of Columbia; one brother, Larry (Joyce) Harris of Hudson, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Sara (Maury) Chappell of Columbia, Mrs. Lena Bell (Jimmy) Cortner of Shelbyville; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Nolan Harris, Elzie Harris and Cecil Harris and one grandson, Rodney Brett McMinn. Pallbearers will be Marty Leland, Shawn Payne, Marc Payne, Brian Hay, Eric Shouse, Matt Shouse, Steven Seaton, Jon St. Clair and Bill Grissom. Honorary pallbearers will be retired employees of Monsanto.
