Video memories of Mrs. Ona SharpMrs. Ona Alleen Sharber Sharp, 96, a life-long resident of Columbia, died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at her residence on Wyndham Drive. The family will visit with friends Tuesday beginning at 12:00 Noon at Oakes & Nichols with a service honoring her life following at 2:00 p.m. with Ron Eversole officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church, P. O. Box 207, Columbia 38401 or Rose Hill Cemetery, P. O. Box 1015, Columbia 38402. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. She was the widow of Ronald Thomas Sharp and the daughter of the late Caledonia "Pet" Andrews and Joseph Walter Sharber. Mrs. Sharp was the last living charter member of Central Christian Church. For many years she was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship there, giving devotionals for the group well into her 80s. She remained a member of the church prayer chain into her 90s and was also active in the Central Christian Ladies' Aid projects when the church was located on the corner of West Eighth and Garden streets. A devoted homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Sharp will be remembered by some as a department head and buyer for the former Parks-Belk Department Store. She resided in the same home on Riverside Drive for 62 years and one of her greatest joys was maintaining an attractive home and lawn. She was known by friends and family as a gracious hostess, often entertaining guests by playing her organ. She enjoyed collecting antiques and possessed some cherished family heirlooms. Her forebears were prominent in the early civic life of Columbia. The old Andrews School was named for her great-grandfather and her grandfather served five terms as Mayor of Columbia. Mrs. Sharp's husband of 52 years preceded her in death in January, 1977. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary (Mrs. John) Totty, Annie Laura (Mrs. Elton) Amick and Louise (Mrs. Alton) Vaughan. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jo (Mrs. Robert W.) Hardy of Columbia; a son, Ronald Allen "Ron" (Becky) Sharp of Columbia; four grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth (Mrs. Kenneth) Hundley of Jackson, Alabama, Mary Lisa (Mrs. Michael) Langley of Memphis, Bryan Allen (Penny) Sharp of Burns and Amberly (Mrs. Christopher) Pryor of Murfreesboro; two step-grandsons, Jason Bobb of Columbia and Andy (Lori) Bobb of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Katherine (Mrs. John) Chambers, Jennifer Elizabeth Hundley, Blair Alleen Hundley, Adam Michael Langley, Anna Lisa Langley, Robert Eugene Langley and Marley Savannah Sharp; a beloved niece, Jerre Ann (Mrs. Devon) Richter and a special caregiver, Sandra Turntine. Active pallbearers are Jason Bobb, Herbert Church, Larry Deatley, Thomas Hight, Jr., Dennis Satterfield and Kevin Crabtree. Honorary pallbearers include J. Frank Walker, John T. Fisher, Howell Wantland, Sr., Richard Smith, Sr., John Kent Totty, Mrs. And Mrs. James Webb, Mrs. And Mrs. James Dawson, Alfred Stutts, Thomas Hight, Sr., Robert Zseltvay, Andy Hunter, Dr. Gaylon Harris, Dr. and Mrs. Ben Gardner, Linda Allen of The Hospice of the Highland Rim and Elders and Deacons of Central Christian Church.
