Ophelia Ann Loftin Phoenix, 93, resident of Sunset Drive, died Friday, April 19, 2019 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Ted Burleson and Mike Kesler officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2:30 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to West Seventh Street Church of Christ, 405 West 7th Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born February 19, 1926 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Loftin and the late Lelia Hardison Loftin. She married Dr. William D. Phoenix who preceded her in death in 1982. She was Valedictorian of Columbia Central High School Class of 1944, earned her Bachelor’s degree from David Lipscomb College in 1948, and a Master’s degree from the University of Missouri. Mrs. Phoenix worked for the Veteran’s Service Office until 1980 and then retired at the age of 90 as a Personal Property Accounts Clerk for the Property Assessors Office. She enjoyed collecting thimbles and was a member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ. Survivors include her aunt, Rachel Hardison Bevans of Hermitage; and several cousins. Elders and Ministers of West Seventh Street Church of Christ will serve as pallbearers.
