Owen Young

May 6, 1934 — October 4, 2016

Owen Young, 82, retired carpenter, died Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at his residence on Mt. Lebanon Church Road in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Paul Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in Scribner's Mill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late James Scott Young and the late Betty Ann Pilkinton Young. Mr. Young was self-employed doing what was his passion, carpentry. He also enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife, Mary Spears Young of Shelbyville; daughter, Diane (Jerry) Flowers of Giles County; sons, Randall (Jean) Young of Lewisburg and Scott (Vickie) Young of Franklin; grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Thomason, Brian (Morgan) Flowers, Brandon (Marie) Flowers, Nikki (John) Allbert, Jason (Kandi) Young, Jennifer (Ryan) Dishman, Cynthia (Travis) Bruens, Chris (Stacey) Booker; nineteen great grandchildren; brother, Otis Odell Young; sister, Christine (John T. "Bud") Haskin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Ann Smith Young who died July 28, 2006; sisters, Louise Waldon and Ora Mae Holder; and brother, James Walter Young.
