Mary Pansy Holcomb Mrs. Mary Pansy Yancey Holcomb, 92, widow of Walter Lee "Spud" Holcomb, Jr. and resident of Crestland Drive, died Thursday, July 28, 2005 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Highland Park Baptist Church, 1800 Highland Ave., Columbia, TN 38401 or American Red Cross, 419 West 9th St., Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Jackson County, Alabama native was the daughter of the late John Samuel Yancey and Mittie Culpepper Yancey. She was retired from Tennessee Knitting Mills. Mrs. Holcomb was a fifteen year volunteer with the American Red Cross where she was the 1999-2000 Volunteer of the Year . She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Lou (Billy) Potts of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Jimmie Ruth (Wayne) Johnson of Soddy Daisy; one brother, Cecil Yancey of Rainsville, Alabama; two grandchildren, Phyllis (Sam) Davis and Janet Vernon both of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Blake Davis, Kelsi Davis and Ryan Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers. Pallbearers will be R.P. Lanius and Deacons of Highland Park Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jubilee Sunday School Class at Highland Park Baptist Church, volunteers with the American Red Cross, employees at NHC Hillviewespecially the Skilled Wing, Nell Fitzgerald, Hulda Beard, Virginia Parker, Georgia McCaleb, Lisa Hammond, Estelle Littleton and Frances Meek.
