Patricia Haywood West, 88, retired Certified Nursing Assistant and resident of Riverside Drive, died Monday, January 12, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Fred Tapper and Rev. Terry Peery officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Thursday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born April 15, 1926 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late John L. Haywood and Irene Galloway Haywood. In May 1945, she married Joe A. "Dee" West, Sr., who preceded her in death on May 28, 1982. In her younger days, Mrs. West was employed at Dixie Manufacturing for several years. After receiving her CNA certificate, she had worked at Heritage Nursing Home, Rosewood Manor, and retired at the age of eighty from Hidden Acres. She enjoyed flower gardening and was very devoted to her family. She was a member of Knob Creek Baptist Church since 1939. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Journey of Columbia; sons, Joe A. (Rhonda) West, Jr. and Tony (Shirley) West, both of Columbia; brothers, Harold (Fay) Haywood of Columbia and John (Margaret) Haywood of Cornersville; grandsons, Michael Carson West of Knoxville; Keith Allen (Lori) West and Thomas Ryan Journey, both of Columbia; Miles Weston (Annie) Journey of Arlington, TN; granddaughter, Christie Lynn West Fautt of Columbia; step grandchildren, Kellie (Marc) Craig, Holly (Jason) Potts, Andy (Jerri Lynn) Derryberry, and Brittney Dalton, all of Columbia; fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Brown, Carolyn Nix, Edwina Tapper, and Marion Jean Shaw. Active pallbearers will be Mike West, Keith West, Ryan Journey, Miles Journey, J. B. "Butch" West, Chris Shaw, Andy Derryberry, and Cameron Riggins. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Thompson, Ryan Tietgen, and employees of Super-Rama.
