Patricia Lou Outlaw, 79, resident of Nashville, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at NHC Cool Springs following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Columbia, TN with The Reverend Chad Jones, The Reverend Chris Bowhay and Dr. Robert Abstein officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Episcopal Churchyard in Columbia. Visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home Columbia, TN and Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the Parish Hall at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Memorials may be made to Mississippi University for Women, Nashville Humane Association, Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, or Land Trust of Tennessee. Online condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Patty was born on May 10, 1945, at Camp Shelby hospital near Hattiesburg, MS, to the late William “Bill” Thomas Outlaw and the late Carolyn Murray Outlaw. She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1963, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS(MUW), Patty moved to Nashville in 1967, starting her first job with the Cumberland Valley Girl Scout Council where she worked with communities across Middle TN and KY. From there, she went to work at Channel 5 where she made many long-time friendships. She went on to be Public Relations Director at several nonprofits before going into the corporate sector. Patty was a part of the early days of cellular communications.

She served two terms as President of the Middle TN Alumni Chapter of MUW; President of Davidson County Young Republicans; and two terms as President of the Middle TN Perennial Plant Society. Patty also served on the boards of the: TN Young Republicans; Buddies of Nashville; Opportunity House; House of Friendship; Public Relations Society of America; Nashville Humane Association, as well as; the Nashville and State Boards of the American Heart Association; Vestry of the Church of the Advent Episcopal Church; and Alumni Board of Mississippi University of Women. She was also in Who’s Who in the South and Southwest in 1983. 

She had many interests and hobbies that ran the gamut from painting, creative writing, miniatures which were exhibited in two exhibits at Cheekwood, gardening, music history, but most of all pets! Patty had a lifelong love of pets which led to a twenty plus year pet sitting business. 

Survivors include her uncle Allen Outlaw and his family of Brownsville, TN, and many wonderful friends!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a close family friend, Arnell Peery, and a dear cousin, David Stewart.

Pallbearers will be Destin Tompkins, Claiborne Tompkins, Brian Setzer, Michael Dixon, Phillip Brooks, Mitch Pettross, Don Greene, Ben Hendrix, Les Kerr, Nate Parrish, Scott Johnson, and Jim DeLanis. Special thanks for their care for Patty in her final days to Sharon Howard, Lynn Ragland, Ann Johnson, Ginny and Sloan Burton, Malli Richmond, and Jim DeLanis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Staff and Alumni of MUW, Dr. Joe Ed Conn, ABC (After Breast Cancer Support Group), Patrick Jones, Andrew Jones, and Ron Wells.
