View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Mr. Paul Wayne Hartsfield, 81, owner of the Lemon Tree, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at his residence in Columbia surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Nicky Hartsfield officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1 - 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will take place at a later date. The family suggests memorials for Columbia State Community College Athletics Department, checks made to Columbia State Foundation, 1665 Hampshire Pike, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Loretto, he was the son of the late James Alton and Nola Hughes Hartsfield. Mr. Hartsfield served in the U.S. Army as artillery support during the Korean War. In 1982 he retired as a Lieutenant after a thirty year career in the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He was a member of the American Legion and Graymere Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, horseback riding, Columbia State Baseball and was the #1 fan at all his grandchildren's sporting events. He was of the Catholic faith.Survivors include his wife, Mildred Magdalen Neidert Hartsfield of Columbia whom he married December 26, 1955; son, Darrel (Anita) Hartsfield; daughter, Carla Hartsfield (Norm) Jenks; grandchildren, Daniel (Ashley) Thompson, Bridget (Tyler) Boshers, Andy (Tiffany) Jenks, Ryan (Savanna) Jenks, Corey Jenks, Bradley (Jennifer) Hartsfield, Mark (Megan) Hartsfield, Miles (Lauren) Hartsfield; seven great-grandchildren; and nephews, Ronnie (Janet) Hartsfield and Nicky (Judy) Hartsfield. He was preceded in death by a brother, Max Hartsfield and grandson, Calvin Jenks. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Compassus, Dr. Stephen Simmons and Dr. Ben Gardner.
