It is with deepest sorrow that the children of Peggy Fleming inform you of her death on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at NHC Hillview. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joe Evans officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday, March 14, from 4:00 - 6:00 at her home Antrim, 2759 Pulaski Highway. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Margaret Adams Dickinson Fleming "Peggy" was the daughter of the late Jacob McGavock Dickinson and Margaret Adams Dickinson. She grew up at Traveler's Rest in Nashville. On December 11, 1937, she married Stuart Swope Fleming of Columbia who preceded her in death June 4, 1967. She had made her home at Antrim on the Pulaski Pike for approximately seventy years. For many years she owned Traveler's Rest Arabian Horse Farm in Columbia. She also operated Traveler's Rest Riding Camp, teaching young girls throughout the area the techniques of riding, love of horses and many life lessons. Her home and farm, Antrim, has served as the location of the fundraiser, Summer Songwriter's Night and has been the setting of numerous weddings and events. Mrs. Fleming served as the first president of the Maury County Hospital Auxiliary and was a faithful volunteer at Maury Regional Hospital. She was a member of James K. Polk Memorial Association. She sang in the choir and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. She was also an active member of the 42nd Rainbow Division and Arabian Horse Club of Middle Tennessee. Survivors include her children, James McGavock (Helen) Fleming of Columbia, Robert McLemore (Diane) Fleming of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Margaret Adams (Burt) Hewgley of Columbia, and Tami (Jay) Crawford of College Grove; sisters, Edith Tipple and Maxi Decker, both of Santa Barbara, California; brothers, William Dickinson of Tucson, Arizona and Rufus Dickinson of Toronto, Canada; grandchildren, Bonnie Fleming (Jason) Wilson of Houston, TX, James (Cheryl) Fleming, Jr. of Nashville, Patricia Fleming of Asheville, NC, Leslie Fleming (Steve) Schoradt of Grass Valley, CA, Chandler Fleming (Richard) Todd of Albuquerque, NM, Swope (Dana) Fleming of Arlington, MA; Becky Hewgley (Andrew) Ramer of Spring Hill; Robin Hewgley (Seth) Estep and Marina Hewgley (Will) Holloway, both of Thompsons Station, McGavock Crawford and Will Crawford, both of College Grove; step grandchildren, Ashley (Brendan) Brogan of Birmingham, AL and Alice (Nick) Symbas of Atlanta, GA; and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Stuart Swope Fleming, Jr. The family would like to express a special thank you to all the staff at NHC Hillview.
