View Funeral Webcast Peggy Gene Hubbell Wilson, 68, retired educator and long-time resident of the McCains Community, died Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at South Gate Church of Christ with Brian Gregory, John Thomas, and Joe Macer officiating. Burial will follow in McCains Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born January 21, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Lilburn Eugene Hubbell and the late Alma Lucille Cummins Hubbell. She was reared in the McCains Community, where her parents operated L.E. Hubbell Grocery. She was a 1969 graduate of Columbia Central High School and in 1973 earned her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Lipscomb University. Later Mrs. Wilson received her Master’s of Education from Middle Tennessee State University. In 1979, she began her teaching career at Columbia Academy and was part of the first faculty-staff. For several years, she taught at J. E. Woodard Elementary, where she was also part of the first faculty-staff and retired as Assistant Principal. At one time, she taught at Culleoka Unit School, and was Assistant Principal for Howell Elementary and Brown Elementary. Mrs. Wilson was known to be a wonderful seamstress and after retirement she enjoyed cake decorating and monogramming. She was a member of Tennessee Education Association and South Gate Church of Christ, where she taught Bible classes to elementary children and previously at East Side Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, whom she married September 21, 1973, Jerry Doak Wilson of McCains Community; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Wilson of Columbia; son, Jeffrey Doak (Mary Beth) Wilson of Nashville; grandchildren, Morgan Wilson, Julia Wilson, Abbey Wilson; sister-in-law, Anna Wilson Quirk of Columbia; brother-in-law, Tom (Pam) Wilson of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Sam Quirk, Kasey (Barry) Cross, Kristy Wilson, Tommy Wilson; great nieces and nephew, Rachel Cross, Kate Cross, Sarah Grace Cross, and Brett Wilson; and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Julia Ann Hubbell, nephew, Bradley Wilson Quirk, brother-in-law, Jimmy Ray Quirk, and in-laws, James Doak Wilson and Martha Stone Wilson. Active pallbearers will be Tom Wilson, Tommy Wilson, Sam Quirk, Brett Wilson, Barry Cross, and Richard Hickman. Honorary pallbearers include Elders and Deacons of South Gate Church of Christ.
