PERRY SPENCER Mr. Edward Perry Spencer, Sr., 77, retired employee of Monsanto Chemical Company, farmer and long-time resident of Santa Fe, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Raintree Manor Nursing Home in Warren County. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Donald Dark officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 The family will visit with friends Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Mt. Pleasant native was the son of the late John Edward Spencer and Margaret Ellen Robbs Spencer. He was married to Dolores Keltner Spencer who preceded him in death September 21, 1997. Following his retirement from Monsanto he was employed as a school bus driver for Maury County schools. He was very active in the Maury County Bridle & Saddle Club and the Mule Day Committee. He was often involved in wagon trains and mule rides. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Lucille Johnson of McMinnville; one son, Edward P. Spencer, Jr. of Santa Fe; one brother, John Hoover Spencer of Columbia; two grandchildren, James Edward Pewitt of Santa Fe, Billy Freeman Johnson of Columbia; and four great-grandchildren, Odessa Kay Pewitt, Joshua Edward Pewitt, Dolores Elizabeth Rose Pewitt and Katlynn Lucille Johnson. Pallbearers will be Roger Warren, Jerry Vandergriff, James Connelly, Charles Spencer, Larry Jones and Eddy Spencer. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Maury County Bridle & Saddle Club and retired employees of Monsanto Chemical Company.
