PETE PAYNE Lee Roy "Pete" Payne, 89, retired employee of Monsanto and resident of Woods Drive, died Friday, August 29, 2003, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Collins officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Calhoun County, Alabama, native was the son of the late Larkin Hillman Payne and Janie Little Payne. He was a member of West End Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Sanders Payne of Columbia; one son, Lee Roy "Petey" (Mel) Payne of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Orlis Bohannon of Gadsden, Alabama; Mrs. Nola Thomas of Anniston, Alabama; four grandchildren, Robert B. (Barb) Payne, Hillman L. Payne, Matthew C. Payne, Michael J. (Dawn) Payne; and four great grandchildren, Brett A. Payne, Megan Payne, Brandon Payne, and Jacob Payne. Pallbearers will be Robert B. "Ben" Payne, Hillman L. "Lee" Payne, Matthew C. "Matt" Payne, Michael J. "Josh" Payne, W. O. "Sonny" Thomas, Brett A. Payne, and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Dale, Larry Massey, Steve Massey, J. V. Hill, David Wright, Dr. Moataz Toban, Dr. Amit Choksi, Dr. T. K. Young, Donald Scott, Carl Herr, Gordon Adams, and former employees of Monsanto Electrical Department.
