PEYTON H. LESLIE, SR. Mr. Peyton H. Leslie, Sr., brother of Woodrow W. Horton of Columbia, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 10, 2003 at Eighth Street Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the church. Thatcher Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Leslie was the youngest of eleven children born to Ulysses and Eula Bell Leslie in Athens, Alabama. He received his early education in Athens and attended college at Oregon State University. He served in the U. S. Army receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of Eighth Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee, bus minister, maintenance supervisor, member of Adult #6 Sunday School class, mid-week prayer group, Imperial Choir member and any other capacity when called upon. Mr. Leslie was employed with Hallmark Cards for thirty-seven years. He enjoyed participating in the Kansas City American Royal BBQ Cook Off and won several awards. He also enjoyed coaching AAU Basketball and mentoring to young people. He was a volunteer for the Unified Government and Don Bosco Center. Survivors include his wife Eloise Williams Leslie of Kansas City; four children, L. Patrice (Conrad) Bartee and Peyton H. (April) Leslie, Jr., both of Grandview, MO; Phylisa Leslie and Eric Leslie, both of Kansas City; three brothers, Clarence (Viola) Horton of New Orleans; Woodrow (Mary Ruth) Horton of Columbia; Robert (Betty) Leslie of Indianapolis; three sisters, Wendolyn (Richard) El, Patricia Bey, and Charlet Jones, all of Athens, AL; and three grandchildren.
