Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born July 17, 1940 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Raymond Wesley Lindsey and the late Lila Ruth Beckenbach Lindsey. Reared in the Ridley Community near Mt. Pleasant, Phil was a 1958 graduate of Hay Long High School. In June 1963, he married Nancy Ann Jones Lindsey who preceded him in death October 23, 1977. On December 28, 1979, he married Sandra Gibson Alderson Lindsey who survives. After a twenty-plus-year career as an electrician with Stauffer Chemical Company which was later acquired by Zeneca, he retired at the age of 50 in 1991. Retirement gave him a chance to follow his passion for farming, his favorite occupation. Cutting, raking and baling hay for himself and others was most pleasurable. He raised Black Angus cattle and enjoyed watching them graze in the field. Mr. Lindsey loved working in his wood-working shop and made furniture for friends and family. An admirable man, he loved his family and friends, always offering help in any way he could. He was a Colonel and life member of the Columbia Jaycees, a member of the Wagon Wheelers Square Dance Club; and a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Gibson Alderson Lindsey of Columbia; sons, Michael Wesley (Amy) Lindsey and Eddie (Andrea) Alderson, both of Columbia; daughter, Julie Alderson (Rickey) Savage of Columbia; sisters, Judy Lindsey (Tommy) Wolaver and Jane Lindsey Bailey, both of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Charles Alexander "Alex" Savage, Ashlyn Grace Lindsey, Caylea Katherine Savage; sister-in-law, Sue (Bill) Fly of Williamsport; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Fly, William Fly, Tommy Hutcherson, Scott Snyder, Jake Wolaver, and John Wolaver. Honorary pallbearers will include Elliott Hampton, Vance Hendrickson, Alan Hughes, Dale Hughes, Harold Jackson, Jerry Oakley, Lane Gibson, Lake Lomax, Luke Wilson, Dr. Mark Robbins, Lori Zulfer Godwin, Dr. Walter Claire, Dr. Lisa Lancaster, Dr. Rebecca Hung, Dr. Mohana Karlekar, Dr. Shichun Bao, members of the Hay Long High School Class of 1958, members of the Columbia Wagon Wheelers Square Dance Club, present and past members of Columbia Jaycees, and Elders of Graymere Church of Christ. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Vanderbilt Medical Center 7th Floor Nursing Staff, Intensive Care Nursing Staff, and the Palliative Care Staff.
