Phoebia Lindsey Hurst

Mrs. Phoebia Lindsey Hurst, 93, resident of Dodson Gap Road, died Saturday, September 27, 2008 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Steve Swango officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 1864, Columbia 38402. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Greenville, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Allen Lindsey and Margaret McMahan Lindsey. She came to Columbia from Sevierville to make her home in 1984. Mrs. Hurst was a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church and loved gardening and fishing. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Cannady of Culleoka; sister, Ethel Odom of Pelzer, South Carolina; grandchildren, Brenda Cannady (Rodney) McKee, Sharon Cannady (Jerry) Walls, Robert Frank (Wendy) Cannady, Cindy Cannady (Don) Moore, Michael Hurst, Shirley Hurst Sprout, Joseph (Ann) Hurst, Patty Hurst (Mark) Sanfilipo; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Granville Hurst, Sr. in January, 1984; sons, Mack Granville Hurst, Jr. and Ralph Hurst; great-grandson, Travis Wesley "Pockets" Riddle; son-in-law, Frank Cannady; daughter-in-law, Roberta Cullum Hurst; four sisters and five brothers. Active pallbearers are Don Moore, Robert Cannady, Rodney McKee, Clint Cannady, A. J. Riddle, and Brandon Ogden. Fred Cruse and members of Blue Springs Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
