Phyllis Ann Spencer Smith, 83, homemaker, died Saturday, August 31, 2019 at her residence on Ashwood Road. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Kimbrough officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandichols.com. Born August 25, 1936 in Fleming County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Spencer and the late Ella Dean McCord Spencer. On April 18, 1964, in Manchester, Kentucky, she married Jack Smith who survives. For 15 years, she was the Director of Allison Avenue Baptist Church Pre-School in Hamilton, Ohio and served on Butler County Election Commission in Ohio for many years. Mrs. Smith was a member of First Family Baptist Church. In addition to her loving husband, Jack Smith of Columbia; survivors include her children, Jackie (Jim) Cecere of Hamilton, Ohio; Tammie Leisring of Sunman, Indiana; Debbie (John) Kelley of Columbia; Billy (Peggy) Smith of Fairfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Sarah (Andy) Judd, Jim (Jenn) Cecere, John (Amber) Cecere, Simon (Heather) Cecere, Siana (Corey) Vernot, Judah Cecere, Michael Leisring, Brandy Leisring, Jodi (Josh) Wilhelm, John Bryan (Meagan) Kelley, Hope Kelley, Grace Kelley, Kyle (Jordan) Smith, Rachel Smith, Matthew Smith, Jessica and Chelsea Smith; and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Tony Leisring; sister, Margie Emmons; aunt, Bessie McCord; and uncle Tony McCord. Active pallbearers will be Michael Leisring, John Cecere, J.B. Kelley, Kyle Smith, Matthew Smith, Ryan Heichelbach, and Danny Heichelbach. Honorary pallbearers Dan Heichelbach, Gary Nealy, Jimmy Fontaine, and Dan Barbarino. The family would like to express a special thanks to her friend and caregiver, Diane Meacham and to the staff of NHC Columbia for the outstanding care she received.
