Mrs. Phyllis Mildred Smith Shelby, 92, retired Registered Nurse and resident of Mt. Juliet, died Friday, December 28, 2007 at Summit Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Order of the Eastern Star rites will be conducted Sunday at 7:00 p.m.Memorials may be made to Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Christian Scholarship, c/o Jean Vincent, 1007 Hyndsver Road, Martin, TN 38237. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Helena, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clyde H. Smith and Mildred Alice Garn Smith. She was married to Lonnie Ervin Shelby who preceded her in death on June 14, 1984. She had worked at Maury County Hospital from 1956 - 1962 as an Licensed Practical Nurse and for Dr. Ralph Kustoff from 1962 - 1970. She received her Associates Degree in Nursing at Columbia State Community College in 1970 and returned to Maury County Hospital from 1970 - 1975 as 3rd Floor Head Nurse. She was a former thirty-eight year member of Highland Park Baptist Church where she taught the Lily Davis Sunday School Class for many years and more recently a member of Donelson First Baptist Church. She was a 57 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having joined in North Little Rock, Arkansas in 1950 and transferred her membership to Columbia Chapter #287 in 1955. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi International. She was Past Matron and Past Grand Representative of the State of Louisiana from 1979 - 1982. She was a member of Maury County Senior Citizens, Donelson Senior Citizens, and Mt. Juliet Senior Citizens. Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne (Holland) Koontz of Nashville; one son, Jim Shelby of Lubbock, Texas; one half-sister, Joan Shanerhan of Fremont, Ohio; one stepsister, Helen Aldrich of Sandusky, Ohio; five grandchildren, Earl F. Grubbs, III, Bethany Ann Sullivan, Steven Douglas Grubbs, Billy Edward Ward, Sharon Kay Porter; several great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Shelby Porter, two sisters, Theodora Gardner and Alice Grasser; two brothers, Ronald Eugene Smith and Stanley Clyde Smith; one stepbrother, Harold George Aldrich; and one great grandson, Wade Bryant Sullivan. Pallbearers will be members of the Highland Park Baptist Church Senior Men's Sunday School Class. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Order of the Eastern Star Columbia Chapter #287, Herman Lewis, Fred Prince, and Roy Dye. The family wishe to express their thanks to the Mt.
