Mrs. Rachel Whiteside Kennedy, 86, retired employee of Reynolds Drug Company and resident of Sunset Drive, died Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Elmer Lusk and Jack White officiating. Burial will be in Old Well Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 - 7:00p.m. at the funeral home. She was married to Paul Kennedy who preceded her in death on October 2, 1984. She was a graduate of Hampshire High School. Having served the public for forty-five years at various locations, including Dixie Maid and Lucille's Restaurant, on July 29, 1994, she retired after being employed at Reynolds Drug Company for seventeen years. Mrs. Kennedy was a Past President of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary where she served as a Gray Lady. She was an active longtime member of East Side Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Cecelia (Charlie) Willis of Columbia; one son, Paul C. Kennedy of Nashville; three grandchildren, Clifton (Tammy) Willis of Mt. Pleasant, Christy (Eric) Pogue of Columbia; Cayce (Randy) Turner of Franklin, Kentucky; great grandchildren, Daniel Willis, Tyler Willis, Lauren Ashley Belew, Morgan Belew, Jackson Turner, Tess Turner, and triplet great granddaughters, Amy Turner, Allison Turner, and Autumn Turner; two sisters, Louise Whiteside Clay of Alachua, Florida; Christine Whiteside Davidson of Orange, Texas; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Blair (Fred) Greer and Miss Alice Kennedy, both of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Clifton Willis, Daniel Willis, Tyler Willis, Fred Greer, Randy Turner, Lewis Love, David Lindsey, and Pete Ridley. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Davidson, Stan Clay, Herman Willis, Clyde Farris, Jim Dawson, Bill Jones, Glenn Truelove, Dr. William Hunter, Dr. Paul Perryman, and all nurses, techs, and staff of NHC Columbia.
