Rachel Marie Alderson Foster, 80, retired employee of Harris Family Foodland, resident of Westover Drive, and later in life NHC Columbia, died Monday, October 29, 2018 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with her son David Foster and Phillip Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to The Foundation for Geriatric Education, c/o NHC Columbia-TFGE, 101 Walnut Lane, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born August 1, 1938 in Maury County, she was daughter of the late Charles Alderson and the late Lettie Hood Alderson. For several years, she was a waitress at Lucille’s Restaurant. An excellent cook, Mrs. Foster enjoyed collecting cookbooks. A loving mother and grandmother, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was a member Highland Park Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Erika (Chris) Odom of Columbia; son, David (Kim) Foster of Winchester; sisters, Lois (Frank) Lindsey of Columbia; Shirley (Tony) West of Columbia; brother, Larry (Joyce) Alderson of Columbia; grandchildren, Mitchell Foster; Meredith Foster; Caitlyn Odom; sister-in-law, Ruth Alderson of Thompson’s Station; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gail McCain; and Connie Cathey. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne Alderson; Glen Alderson; David Clyde Alderson; Billy Alderson; Jerry Alderson; and special friends, Jo Ann “JoJo” Johnson; and Mary Jones.Active pallbearers will be her nephews, great nephews, and Scott Turner. Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Elliot and past and present employees of Harris Family Foodland. The family would like to express a special thanks to the nurses and staff of NHC Columbia.
