Raymond Ayers Mr. Raymond Hilliard Ayers, 56, former commissioner for the homeless in Berkley, California and resident of Hampshire Pike, died Tuesday at VA Hospital in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. David Baker officiating. Burial will be in Marietta Campground Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia. The family will visit with friends Friday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. The Atlanta, Georgia native was the son of Raymond Ayers and Evelyn Ellis Ayers of Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Berkley Community College in California and served in the United States Army during Vietnam. Survivors in addition to his parents are two daughters, Joanne (John) Burke and Catherine Hows both of Columbia; one son, Raymond Shane Ayers of Lawrenceburg; two sisters, Carol (Robert) Moncrief of Canton, Georgia, Dorothy Edmonds of Jefferson, Georgia; eight grandchildren; three nephews and two nieces.
