View Video TributeIt is with deepest sorrow that we, the children of our beloved Raymond Lee Pennington Sr., inform you that Raymond Sr., passed peacefully at home on December 3, 2013. His wonderful wife and companion of 67 years, Ovie Travis Pennington preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters Carolyn Pennington (B.F.) Wilkinson, Linda Pennington (Joel) Lopez, and Marietta Pennington (Steve) Lake and sons Ray (Penny) Pennington Jr. and Phillip (Karen) Pennington, as well as by 26 wonderful grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.Raymond was the patriarch of a large and loving family. He was so blessed to be surrounded by loving friends and family for the last few days of his life. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren mourn his passing, yet we are comforted in knowing that we had his love and his influence for so many years.We appreciate the many kind people who called to express their love and concern for Raymond; it meant so much to him and to us, his family. Thank you each and every one. Raymond Pennington, Sr. was 91 years old at the time of his passing. His life was dedicated to nurturing his children and grandchildren and making their house a home where all who entered would feel a spirit of love. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities including serving in the Temple and providing service as a welfare missionary. There is an opportunity for family, friends, and sympathizers to honor Raymond and offer condolences at a visitation to be held on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home.Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1608 Hampshire Pike, Columbia, TN 38401, with Bishop Ronald W. Pennington officiating. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Interment following the funeral services, will be at the Greenfield Bend Church of Christ Cemetery. The cemetery is located at 4462 Greenfield Bend Rd, Williamsport, TN 38487. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
