MR. R. B. TOONE Mr. R. B. Toone, 87, a resident and former Mayor of Spring Hill and retired twenty-nine year employee of Union Carbide Corporation, died Friday, June 6, 2003 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Phillip Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends after 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home concluding with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Shrine Children's Hospital, in care of Maury County Shrine Club, P. O. Box 890, Columbia, 38402 or the American Heart Association, 1818 Patterson Street, Nashville, 37203. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Limestone County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Edgar Shirrell Toone and Myrtle Tillery Toone. A forty-two year retiree from the U. S. Army and U. S. Navy Reserves, he was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Toone was fifty year Mason. Survivors include a brother, Harry Gene Toone of Villa Rica, Georgia; special friends, Margaret Robertson and Jack Robertson of Spring Hill; a step-daughter, Marjorie Brunson of Southport; a step-son, James Randall of Columbia; three step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie A. Hutcherson Toone; a sister, Ila Dean Richardson; three brothers, Elbert Toone, Donald Toone and Wendell Toone. Active pallbearers are L. T. Anderson, James Smothermon, George Jones, George Horne, Jim Shiver, Clarence Lindsey, Rex Toone and Danny Toone. Honorary pallbearers include Jack Robertson, Doug Robertson, Ray Williams, Donald "Bud" Underwood, Kenneth Brown, Garland Glenn, Clyde Farmer, Jeffrey Williams, Larry Atema, Dale Ring, Jay Farmer, Alfred Martin, and staff of NHC of Columbia.
