Reuben Edward "Ted" Houston III, 75, resident of Franklin, Tennessee and Orange Beach, Alabama, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.A graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Judge Bobby Sands officiating. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at The Shop. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 12:00 - 1:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MRSA Survivors Network, P.O. Box 241, Hinsdale, IL 60522 or Vanderbilt University Medical Center Development, Gift & Donor Services, 2525 West End Avenue, Suite 450, Nashville, TN 37203. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 23, 1942 in Chattanooga, he was the son of the late Reuben Edward Houston, II and the late Mamie Barnes Houston. Ted was well known in the car business as owner of Ted Houston Auto Sales which he had operated since 1977, as well as former General Manager of Ron Bishop Ford. He was active in many organizations including Columbia Jaycee's, Elks Lodge 686, The Shop, and served as President of Bluewater Condominium Association in Orange Beach, Alabama. Ted was a long-time resident of Columbia, TN and is survived by his wife whom he married December 29, 1995, Joyce Hood Johnson Houston of Orange Beach, AL and Franklin, TN; his sons, Jeff (Sherry) Houston and Dave (Tanoni) Houston, both of Alpharetta, GA; Joyce's daughters, Amy (Scott) Cranford and Lynnette (Trey) Fitts, both of Franklin; grandchildren, Scott Houston, Clint Houston, Hannah Houston, Elliot Houston, and Carter Cranford; niece, Jinger Jernigan Wadel.He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Houston Jernigan. Pallbearers are Ronnie Attkisson, Don Alderson, Joe Horne, Byron Harrington, Don B Harmon and Randy Staggs. Honorary pallbearers will include members of The Shop and Mr. David Wise.
