View Funeral WebcastReverend Glenn Oliver Grigsby, 95, former Methodist minister, school teacher, and retired employee of L&N Railroad, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at his residence on Trotwood Avenue. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Craft Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Peter Van Eys, Rev. David Bradley and Rev. Gary Wedgewood officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Saturday from 12 noon until service time at the church. Mr. Grigsby was born in the Bethesda Community in Williamson County, son of the late Ollie Turner Grigsby and Ida Alexander Grigsby. He was a graduate of Bethesda High School and attended Middle Tennessee State Teachers' College. After college, he taught 10 years in one-room school houses in Williamson County. In 1933 he was licensed as a charge minister with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. At his retirement it was estimated that he had preached in over 110 churches. He was a member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Sara Beasley Grigsby of Columbia; son, William Beasley "W.B." (Bettye) Grigsby of Columbia; two daughters, Martha Ann Grigsby (Bruce) Hieronymus of Savannah and Ida Eugenia Grigsby (Robert) Pratt of Brandon, Florida; 6 grandchildren, Beth (Mike) Cook, Becky Grigsby, Billy (Kim) Grigsby, Todd Beasley (Meredith) Pratt, Ashley (Don) Stahl, Troi (Derek) Hopkins; 6 great-grandchildren, Andrew Owens, Jesse Owens, twins, Grace and Aidan Pratt and twins, Sam and Sophie Hopkins; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Grigsby and three sisters, Vivian Watson, Cleo Grigsby and Jessie Cameron. Pallbearers will be Todd Pratt, Billy Grigsby, Andrew Owens, Jesse Owens, Robert Pratt and Mike Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Jan Van Eys, Bruce Hieronymus, John McEntyre, Dr. Steve Simmons, Fellowship Sunday School Class, and men of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church.
