Rex F. Pogue, 78, self-employed contractor and resident of Erwin Road, died Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Vassar officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Moore Memorial Cemetery in Huntland, Tennessee, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved aunt, Cora Stovall. Born February 18, 1940 in Franklin County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Grover Pogue and the late Ruby Stovall Pogue. He was a graduate of Huntland High School, where he played football and never lost a game while being coached by Shirley Majors. He played football and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Mr. Pogue was a tournament fisherman, enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid Tennessee Volunteers and Tennessee Titans fan. Survivors include his son, Timothy Franklin (Shannon) Pogue of Murfreesboro; daughter, Cynthia Lea (Daniel) Davis of Columbia; sisters, Shirley (Buddy) Caldwell of Franklin; Sue (Steve) Sawrie of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Blane Davis of Columbia; Avery Pogue of Murfreesboro; Journey Davis of Columbia; Beckett Pogue of Murfreesboro; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thanks to his caregivers Tiffany, Andrea, Tammy, Kea, Pam and Kathy, the nurses and staff of Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehabilitation, and his home health nurse, Donna Crigger. Pallbearers will be Daniel Davis, Blane Davis, Beckett Pogue, Bart Kelley, Michael Thrower, Steve Sawrie, Daniel Sawrie, and John Pogue. Honorary pallbearers include Tommy Hight, Sr., Jim Cook, and members of the Shop.
