Richard Leon King, 77, retired electrician for TVA, died Friday, August 25, 2017 at his residence on Rick Hight Road in Columbia.Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Boshers and Brother Matt Travers officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Monday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial be made to Fruit of The Vine (Christmas for Children), c/o Ronnie Thurman, 137 Blythe Circle, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.The Maury County native was the son of the late Ernest Walter King, Sr. and the late Rachel Lucille Eddlemon King. An avid outdoorsman and woodworker, Mr. King enjoyed building tables, camping and riding his golf cart with his dogs Jessee and Breezy. He was a member of the Fruit of The Vine. Survivors include his wife, whom he married December 28, 2016, Sondra Troope Ussery-King of Columbia; step children, Vanessa (Randy) Uzzell of Lewisburg; Cheryl (Bobby) Katzenberger of Culleoka; Candie Starling of Mooresville; Liz Richardson of Mt. Pleasant; Rusty Workman of Mt. Pleasant; Chris (Jessica) Woods of Hampshire; brothers, Billy Ray King of Columbia; R.L. (Cecelia) King of Columbia; Jimmy Carl (Shelia) King of Murfreesboro; sister, Betty Faye (Paul) Rayl of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Mason Davis; Leonnah Davis; eight step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Odom King in April of 1982; daughter, Linda Dawn Davis; brothers, Rayburn Harris King; Ernest King, Jr.; step grandson, David Lee Katzenberger; step great grandson, Landon Ryan Slaughter; and sister-in-law, Earlene King. Active pallbearers will be Michael King, Mark King, Chris Woods, Joey Beckum, Randy Baker, Mason Davis, Murry Ring, and Charles Troope. Honorary pallbearers include W.L. and Nita Boshers, Tommy Tucker, Tommy Elliott, Ronnie and Julian Greggs, Jimmy and Margie Boshers, Terry Brewer, Mary Helen Beckum, Wayne and Carolyn McCord, Digger and Ann Whitley, friends at Thousand Trails Campground, and retired Employees of TVA.
