Richard Kinnard Loftin

Miss Richard Kinnard Loftin, 108, former longtime resident of Fourth Avenue, died Saturday, October 3, 2015 at McKendree Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 P.M. at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Frank Smith and Reverend Chip Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will visit from 1:30 - 2:30 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. The Maury County native was the daughter and youngest of eight children of the late Wesley Walker Loftin and Mary Ophelia Kinnard Loftin. She was an honor graduate of the 1928 Class of Columbia Central High School and attended Columbia Business College. Miss Loftin was a retired banker, having been the third female bank officer in Nashville. During her career she was listed in Marquis' Who's Who of American Women in Business and also Who's Who of Southern Women in Business. During World War II, she was employed by the Selective Service System as Chief Clerk of Maury County Board No. 1. After moving to McKendree Manor in Nashville several years ago, she still retained her membership in First United Methodist Church in Columbia, having joined April 1, 1923. She was also a member of United Methodist Women, Ayers Whitney Sunday School Class, and was very active with church services at McKendree Manor while living there. She is survived by one niece, Ann Loftin Phoenix of Columbia; great nephew, Robert Walker Loftin of Atlanta, Georgia; and very devoted caregiver, Linda Murphy. She was preceded in death by sisters, Harriet Loftin, Ethel Loftin Gipson, Mary Louise Loftin, Sarah Lee Loftin, Margaret Loftin; brothers, Harry Walker Loftin and John Wesley Loftin; very devoted niece, Mary Harding Loftin Wilson; nephew, Dr. Marion Walker Loftin; and great niece, Anita Loftin Ward.
