Robert Lee Baker, Sr., 82, resident of Pickens Lane, died Monday, March 27, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Joe Macer officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born September 14, 1934 in Smith County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Willie Thomas Baker and the late Rachel Mai Baker. He served in the United States Army National Guard. For 25 years, he worked for Akins Market and retired from Union Carbide as a crane operator. A jack of all trades, he enjoyed working on cars, hunting, and fishing. Mr. Baker was a member of South Gate Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, whom he married October 1, 1956, Mary Gail Hickman Baker of Columbia; daughters, Diane (David) Pitts of Columbia; Misti DiScorpio of Murfreesboro; son, Robert Lee "Bobby" (Donna) Baker, Jr. of Ethridge; grandchildren, Heath Pitts, Sara Pitts, Gaston (Kasey) Baker, Garrett Baker; great grandchildren, Nealon Baker, Isaac Baker; sisters, Katherine Davis, Billie Andrews, Lorene Hickman; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Lee Baker; brother, Charles Baker; and sister, Ruby Jones. Active pallbearers will be Sara Pitts, Heath Pitts, Gaston Baker, Garrett Baker, David Pitts, and Brian Buff. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Ben Gardner, Dr. Thomas Dake, Billy Ray Hardison, J. B. "Junior" Hickman, Jr., Jimmy Hickman, Rick & Witsie Plummer, Ricky Plummer, Buford Moss, Jerry Williams, Jody Williams, Steve Morton, J.O. Thurman, Roy Jones, and Jason Dodson.
