Robert Gary Broadway, 71, retired iron worker with Iron Workers Local 492, died Sunday, October 2, 2016, at his residence on Stanfill Drive. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Eddie Rogers and James Patterson officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Born January 22, 1945, in Lenoir City, he was the son of the late Robert Hubert Broadway and the late Allie Louise Scroggins Broadway. He was very proud of his time served in the U. S. Army and representing our country in Vietnam, and continued his commitment and dedication by being an active member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.He enjoyed hunting, fishing and NASCAR. He was very close to his four fur babies, B. J., Rascal, Dai, and Sandy. Mr. Broadway was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife whom he married October 26, 1991, Jane Burgess Broadway of Columbia; sister, Lynette (Danny) Owens of Santa Fe; stepson, Robert Earl "Rob" (Laurel) Demastus of Columbia; granddaughters, Kailey Demastus and Haley Eva Demastus; grandsons, Alex (Ashley) Demastus and Colston Davis; aunt, Shirley Gronewold; niece, Kena Sisk; mother-in-law, Mamie Adams Burgess; sisters-in-law, Diane Burgess, Deborah Burgess (Jerry O.) Howell, Karen Lee Burgess; nephew, Chad (Gaynelle) Howell; niece, Elizabeth (Glen) Nicks; great nephews, Matthew Howell, Tommy Skelley, Andy Skelley; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Gerald Lee "Derail" Demastus. Active pallbearers will be Keith Lineberry, Kevin Gronewold, Danny Harrington, Sammie Broadway, Walt Overholt, and Allison Broadway. Honorary pallbearers will include Jerry Keltner, Aubrey Broadway, Jimmy Guthrie, Jerry Howell, Chad Howell, Matthew Howell, and members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.
