Robert Wilson Fleming Robert Wilson Fleming, 89, retired paymaster at Monsanto, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at his residence at The Bridge at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Zion Presbyterian Church with Rev. Arch Warren officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. at the church. A native of the Zion Community in Maury County and a descendant of the pioneer settlers that settled Zion Community, he was the son of the late David Frierson Fleming and Sara Stephenson Fleming. He was married to Margaret Moffitt Fleming who preceded him in death on December 9, 2000. Mr. Fleming was a 1934 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a lifelong member of Zion Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon Emeritus. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #686, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19, and Sons of the American Revolution. Survivors include special friends, Ray & Dianne Messick of Columbia; Bob Kee of Alamo, Tennessee; Hal & Audrey Morgan of Columbia; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, David Fleming. Pallbearers will be deacons of Zion Presbyterian Church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19, former employees of Monsanto, staff and residents of The Bridge at Life Care Center of Columbia, and Dr. James B. Kelley.
