Mr. Robert B. Gilbert, Jr. Mr. Robert Baxter Gilbert, Jr., 76, retired from Maury Amusement Company and former long-time resident of Eugene Road, died Friday, April 15, 2005 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with The Rev. Thomas Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, 37203. He was a 1947 graduate of Isaac Litton High School in Nashville and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.Mr. Gilbert was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, Columbia Elks Club and Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. His wife, Sue Whitwell Gilbert, died September 3, 1994. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Andy Gilbert and Debborah Smyth of Vicksburg, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Grady Smyth-Gilbert of Boone, North Carolina and Elise Smyth-Gilbert of Vicksburg, Mississippi; a brother, James Alfred (Dot) Gilbert of Madison. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Smith.Pallbearers are Greg Devore, Gilbert Walker, Don Schwendimann, Lou Patterson, Peter Hudson and Randy Speed.
