Robert E. (Bob) Lee, 73, a U. S. Navy veteran and retired radiology technician at Maury Regional Medical Center, passed from this world to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m., Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Shelton and Rev. Ronnie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation with the family will be 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, and 12-2 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A Columbia native and resident of Hampshire Pike, he entered the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served his country for 20 years, serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following his military service, he obtained a degree in Radiology and worked as an x-ray technician for 30 years at Maury Regional Medical Center. A member of Elmore Nazarene Church and the Navy Fleet Reserve Association, his priorities were evident: God, family and country. Bob loved and trusted the Lord from childhood. He was a devoted husband and father and demonstrated Christian love for others in his daily life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe E. and Rosie Mitchell Lee; a sister, Jane E. Lee; one grandson, Ricky Whitfield; and two brothers-in-law, John W. Wright and Jerry W. Myers, Sr. He leaves behind his wife, Judy Shultz Lee of Columbia; three daughters, Gayla (Bo) Scott of College Grove; Tracy (Tommy) Ring, and Allison (Chris) Demastus, both of Columbia, and son, Roger (Speedy) Mathews of Pensacola, Florida. Other survivors include two sisters, Betty Wright and Janice Myers, both of Spring Hill; five grandsons, Rogie Mathews Jr., of Colorado, Dustin Whitfield of College Grove; and Tyler Ring, Tanner Ring, and Carson Demastus, all of Columbia; one great-grandson, Tristan Whitfield of Summertown; devoted friend Joe Pfieffer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Jeff Myers, Jeremy Myers, Todd Shultz, Joe Pfieffer, Rickey South, Ernie Culberson, Boyd Malugin and Mike Redding. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Stephen Strickland, Dr. Cummins Couch and staff; past and present employees of the Maury Regional Medical Center Radiology Department; and members of Elmore Nazarene Church.
