Robert Lee "Bob" Seals

Robert Lee “Bob” Seals, 87, native of Nashville, Tennessee, grandson of Robert Lee and Augusta Shirley, husband of Elsie Faye Johnson of Williamsport, Tennessee, father of Melissa Frances (Ross) Petty of Spring Hill, grandfather of Ashley Petty of Spring Hill, died Thursday, January 3, 2019 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Faye Seals Binkley. Bob was a graduate of West End High School in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was named to All State, All Nashville, and All City Football Teams. Mr. Seals attended the University of Tennessee on a football scholarship graduating with a Bachelor’s degree. He was a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears of the NFL for two and half years. After being placed on the NFL's physically unable to perform list (PUP) due to knee injuries, he attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he graduated with a Master's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He served in the United States Navy as an F9F Pilot aboard US Forrestal CV-59 as a member of the famed VF-123 Gunfighters Squadron. Mr. Seals was Assistant Vice President of First American National Bank in Nashville, Tennessee, Second Vice President of The National Life and Accident Insurance Company in Nashville, Tennessee, and President of Seals and Associates, Inc. in Columbia, Tennessee. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce in Nashville, Tennessee, Board of Governors of The American Institute of Banking, former President of the University of Tennessee Alumni Association Davidson County Chapter, former President of the University of Tennessee Quarterback Club, former Chairman of the Officers of St. Paul Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, former member of the Board of Directors of St. Paul Christian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, Life and Qualifying Member of the Million Dollar Round Table, and former Vice Chairman of the Board of the Maury County Library. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Blythe and Neil Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Williamsport Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
