Robert Harold Simmons, 65, retired environmental engineer with Zeneca Chemical Company and resident of Auburn Lane, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. Arch Warren officiating. Burial will be in Zion Churchyard. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and after 12:00 Noon Tuesday at the church. Pleasant native was a 1959 graduate of Hay Long High School and earned a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville. Mr. Simmons was retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation. He served in the Tennessee Air National Guard and was an avid tennis player and sports enthusiast. He was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Shackelford Simmons of Columbia; a daughter and son-in-law, Lacey and Al White of Alabaster, Alabama; his mother, Johnnie Milton Crews Simmons of Columbia; a grandson, Lee Allen White, Jr. of Alabaster, Alabama. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee Simmons and his father, Robert Lee Simmons. Active pallbearers are Everett Bean, Wayne Peregoy, Al White, David Raymond, Jimmy Couch, Bob Shackelford, A. C. Harlan, and Billy Rogers. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Cummins Couch and members of the Session and Diaconate of Zion Presbyterian Church.
