Robert Dudley "Bob" Sims, 84, resident of Academy Lane, died Monday, May 2, 2016 at Signature Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Joiner officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Thursday 10:00 A.M. until time of the services at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Raymond Sims and Lena Foster Sims. He graduated from Battle Ground Academy in 1950 and Tennessee Tech in 1954 with a Bachelor's degree in business. He served as Lieutenant in the United States Army. Mr. Sims was co-owner and operator of Sims Department Store with his father and brother for many years. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed training Labrador Retrievers and many of his dogs have won awards. He loved being outdoors and lived life to the fullest. Mr. Sims was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his children, Sharon Sims Hartnett of Atlanta, GA; Alan Sims and Lee Ann Sims (Larry) Crain both of Mt. Pleasant; step-daughter, Karen (Tim) Soro of Memphis grandchildren, Jeremy (Christie) Crain, Jessica (Stephen) Crain both of Mt. Pleasant; Claire Hartnett of Charleston, S.C.; great grandchildren, Camden Crain and Cali Crain both of Mt. Pleasant; nephew, Gary (Carolyn) Sims of Columbia; great nephew, Charlie Sims of Columbia; very special devoted friend and neighbor, Bitty Crozier; and his beloved black Lab, Jeb.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Faye Sims; and many beloved hunting dogs. Active pallbearers will be George Gilliam, Todd Gilliam, Clay Gilliam, Tim Davis, Alan Thomason, and Ted Huntley. Honorary pallbearers include Monte Bayless, John Swanner, Dr. Frankie Locklar, Jim Fesmire, Jim Sproul, Bobby Sims, Jim Borum, Cathy and friends at Cathy's Restaurant.
