Mr. Robert T. "Bobby" Tidwell, 77, retired employee of South Central Bell, and resident of the Mooresville Pike, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Burton Daimwood officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Harry Tidwell and Helen Tanner Tidwell. He was a 1949 graduate of Central High School. He served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Tidwell was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Columbia Jay Cees and the Wagon Wheelers. He was a member of Ephesus Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Westmoreland Tidwell of Columbia; sister-in-law, Mrs. Jean (Roy) Johnson of Columbia; nephews, Tony Shires, Mike Shires, Vic (Cathy) Quinn of Conway, Arkansas, Michael Quinn of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and niece, Suzanne (Jim) Curl of Lawrenceburg. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Dixon and Ruth Shires. Pallbearers will be Jack Willis, Wayne Voss, Kris Hughes, Bobby Harris, Sam Beddingfield, Jack Craig, Eldon Barr, Mike Ervin. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Burgess, Herman Lewis, Billy Murphy, Donald Flowers, Stephen Lovell, Wendell Westmoreland, Ray Westmoreland, Jack Westmoreland, Joe Reischman, members of Ephesus Church of Christ, Wagon Wheelers, Telephone Pioneers and Life Care Employees. Special thanks to caregivers, Carolyn Hodges and Mary Simmons.
