SFC James Everette "Sarge" Roberts, Jr. 72, US Army retired, died Monday, November 29, 2004 at his residence on the Campbellsville Pike. Funeral services for Mr. Roberts will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. John Helton officiating. Burial will be in Haynes Cemetery with military honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00p.m. at the funeral home. A native of the Park Station Community of Maury County he was the son of the late James Everette Roberts, Sr. and Ada May Andrews Roberts. He was a graduate of Central High School and a former longtime resident of Granada Dr. and the Willow Apartments of Columbia. He was in the U.S. Army for twenty one years serving in both Korea and Vietnam. During his service he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, W/OLC Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Motor Vehicle Badge W/Bar, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/1 Silver Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device, 2 Oversea Service Bars, 6 Service Stripes. Mr. Roberts was a lifelong member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4969. He was a member of The Pentecostal Faith Church. Survivors include two sisters, Ms. Vergie Mae Roberts of Smithland, Kentucky and Mrs. Mary Louise Helton of Chapel Hill; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Rena May Roberts, Patricia Andrews Roberts, Estelle Milum, Edna Carpenter and one brother, Andrew Thomas Roberts. Pallbearers will be Earl Buchanan, Johnny Helton, James Potts, Joe Hedrick, Zack Hedrick, Tommy Hedrick, Tony Clark, Ronnie Hedrick, and James Helton.
