MR. RONALD G. TRIPP Mr. Ronald Garnet Tripp, 89, retired mechanic and resident of Greenwood Acres, died Sunday, January 18, 2004 at Columbia Care and Rehab. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Eugene Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A native of Moore County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Madison Elijah Tripp and Ollye Pearl Waggner Tripp. He was employed by City Motor Company for 52 years as a mechanic and front end specialist. Mr. Tripp was a member of the Enterprise United Methodist Church. He entered the U. S. Army at the outbreak of World War II, attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served as a medic with the Medical Battalion of the 4th Infantry Division entering Normandy in a landing craft at H-Hour on D-Day and later during the Battle of the Buldge in France. He earned the Bronze Star, with arrowhead, and was awarded the French Croix de Guerre. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 and D-Day Veterans. His first wife, Charlotte Nichols Tripp, died in 1955 and his second wife, Alma Cordelia Walker Tripp in 1980. His third wife, Theresa Mullins Tripp, died March 17, 2001. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Tony Scott of Hampshire; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald M. and Robin Tripp of Columbia; grandchildren, Jarrett Walker Scott, Ellen Kayley Scott, Candace Dee Tripp, Tiffany Diane Tripp, Fred M. High; a great-grandchild, Fred High; a brother, Kenneth Howard Tripp of Nashville. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Walter Tripp, William "Bill" Tripp and a step-son, Fred High. Members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 will serve as pallbearers.
