Rosa Lee Martin Owens, 82, widow of Alvin Owens, Sr. and long-time resident of Shoffner Street in Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013. God sent his angels to Hidden Acres Manor to call her home to rest. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Pleasant native was the daughter of the late Thomas Felix Martin and Mattie McKissack Martin Bibbs and educated at Clarke Training School. Mrs. Owens was a long-time devoted member, former secretary, and past President of the Usher Board of New Hope Baptist Church. She worked in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sowell for over forty years and remained an important part of their extended family. After her retirement, she enjoyed serving as a volunteer with Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Survivors include daughters, Juanita Lockridge of Columbia, Bertha Ella Polk of Columbia, Rose Mary "Mickie" Cannon of Mt. Pleasant, Barbara Ann (Richard) James of Mt. Pleasant, and Delores Fleming of Mt. Pleasant; sons, Alvin (Barbara) Owens, Jr. of Nashville, George Andrew (Amanda) Cannon of Columbia, Gary Cannon of Mt. Pleasant, and Kenneth Cannon of Shelbyville; brother, Willie Andrew Martin of Nashville; grandchildren, Tamika Owens (Tobias) Brown, Angela Secrest, Travis Fleming, Yolanda "Pinkey" Phillips, Rochelle (Terrance) Symlar, Gregory Polk, Darnell (Renita) James, Eric (Chantiel) James, William Lockridge, Yvette Polk, Dwayne (Elaine) Hylick, Willie Alderson, Yvonne Johnson (Tyree) Watson, Lynzee Cannon, Fanise Cannon, Kanisha Cannon, and Kendra Cannon; several great-grandchildren; loving nephews, Roy Rogers and Andrew Mathis; and dear friend, Mattie James. She was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Pearl Cannon and granddaughter, Wanda Lockridge. Deacons of New Hope Baptist Church and St. Ruth Primitive Baptist Church served as pallbearers.
